PRECARE & AFTERCARE
PRE-CARE:
- If you are displaying signs of cold or flu the treatment should be rescheduled.
- Contact lenses must be removed when performing treatment on the upper eyelids.
- Skin should not be inflamed in the area we are treating prior to procedure.
- If you have a sunburn/suntan treatment should be postponed for up to 8 weeks or until tan/burn signs disappear.
- Discontinue use of any AHA and/or Retinol skincare products for 4 weeks prior to treatment.
- Eyelash extensions receiving upper or lower eyelid treatment MUST have lashes removed prior to treatment and reapplied after 8 weeks.
- Discontinue use of any cleaners, creams, and serums containing acids such as salicylic, glycolic, and lactic 4 weeks prior to having any facial Plasma Skin Tightening procedures performed.
AFTERCARE DOs:
- Ice the treated area (use a clean tea towel to cover the ice pack) for 10 minutes as needed the first 2 days.
- Keep the treated area clean using a mild unscented glycerin or Dove unscented soap twice a day (morning and night). Gently splash the area with cool water and very gently clean with soap and rinse very thoroughly. Use very mild gentle pressure to clean skin.
- Gently apply your aftercare product (using only clean hands) to the treated area as needed to relieve pain/itching each day until your scabs fall off on their own.
- IMPORTANT!!! Allow the scabs to come off on their own. This will ensure the best possible healed result and avoid scarring and infection.
- Be patient with the process and allow yourself time to rest and heal.
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds – Once the scabbing/peeling process is complete, always apply a minimum of 30 SPF broad spectrum sunblock to the treated area for a minimum of 4 months after your last treatment. The skin is still healing and can easily become damaged by the UV rays causing hyperpigmentation.
AFTERCARE DON’Ts:
- Do not pick the scabs. Let them fall off by themselves or you risk scarring.
- Do not apply any make-up (even mineral) for the first 4 days or until the scabbing or peeling is complete (about 7-10 days).
- Do not apply any plasters (liquid bandaid) on the treated areas as doing so can delay the natural healing process.
- Do not apply alcohol-based cleansers as this can delay healing.
- Do not workout, swim, get in a hot tub or steam bath (avoid sweating and sauna).

Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is recognised as the benchmark in dermatology practice worldwide. The CryoPen® allows us to work with millimetre precision for removing all benign skin lesions with no more collateral damage to healthy tissue.
With quick and pain-free treatments, we can remove benign cosmetic lesions in a matter of seconds. These include:
- Skin tags
- Warts
- Benign Moles
- Solar lentigines (age and sun spots, liver spots)
- Verrucae
- Cherry angioma
- Seborrhoeic keratosis

What conditions can be treated with cryotherapy?
A wide variety of superficial benign (non-cancerous) lesions can be treated with cryotherapy, but it is most commonly used to remove actinic keratoses (an area of sun-damaged skin found predominantly on sun-exposed parts of the body), viral warts, seborrhoeic keratoses, Bowen’s disease and other benign lesions. I advise that any suspicious lesions are reviewed by your GP prior to treatment.
What does the procedure involve?
Although there is slight local pain felt, cryotherapy does not normally require a local anaesthetic, and the procedure itself lasts a matter of seconds; the precise time depends on the thickness and size of the lesion. The frozen skin becomes white and takes one to two minutes to thaw back to normal skin temperature. After a few days, a scab will form, and this will take one to two weeks to fall off (occasionally a little longer, especially on the legs). Usually, the treated area will eventually look normal, although scarring and discolouration is possible, and rarely ulceration, particularly on the lower legs.
Depending on the nature of the lesion, more than one treatment may be necessary, and this is usually repeated at regular intervals.
How should the treated area be cared for?
You should care for the treated areas by keeping them dry and applying Vaseline to the affected skin if needed. If the scabs become wet, they should be patted dry with a soft towel or tissue. It is important not to pick the scab as this will encourage scarring. A dressing or plaster is not usually necessary but may be advisable if the treated area is likely to be knocked or rubbed by clothing.
Side effects:
- Pain – cryotherapy is usually well-tolerated but can sometimes be
- painful if a deep freeze has been necessary (i.e. to treat a basal cell carcinoma). This discomfort can occur both at the time of treatment and for a variable time thereafter. Painkillers (such as paracetamol) taken for the first 24 hours may relieve the discomfort; also taking a painkiller an hour or so prior to the anticipated treatment may reduce the discomfort.
- Swelling and redness – this is a normal immediate response to freezing the skin and usually settles after two to three days. For a short while the treated area may ooze a little watery fluid. Cryotherapy close to the eyes may induce prominent puffiness of the lower eyelids which settles
- within days.
- Blistering – this is also a common consequence of cryotherapy and
- blisters settle after a few days as the scab forms. Some people blister more easily than others and the development of blisters does not necessarily mean that the skin has been frozen too much. Occasionally the blisters may become filled with blood; this is harmless and should only be punctured if a blister is painful and very uncomfortable, using a sterile needle. We would suggest you gain advice from your GP or doctor who performed the treatment before doing this.
- Infection – uncommonly, infection can occur, resulting in increased pain and the formation of pus: this may require topical antiseptic or antibiotic therapy from the doctor who performed the treatment or your GP.
- Subsequent side effects:
- Scarring – rarely, a scar will form, especially if a deep freeze has
- been necessary
- Hypertrophic/Keloid scarring – very rarely a raised scar can form following treatment with cryotherapy which appears as a rounded, hard growth on the skin. These are harmless lesions, more
- common in dark skinned individuals compared to Caucasians.
- Pigmentation changes – the skin at and around the treatment site may lighten or darken in colour, especially in dark-skinned people.
- This usually improves with time but may be permanent.
- Numbness – if a superficial nerve is frozen, it may result in numbness of the area of skin supplied by that nerve. Normal feeling
- usually returns within a matter of months.
- Treatment may not be effective, or the condition may recur.
Cryotherapy
For the removal of benign skin imperfections.
Cryotherapy is a form of treatment that uses cold temperatures to therapeutic effect. It can be used locally, in a highly targeted way to treat minor skin imperfections.
Cryotherapy is a medical treatment where the imperfection is exposed to extremely cold temperatures for a short period of time. The treatment can be done on specific body areas where the skin has a benign skin lesion.
What is cryotherapy?
The term ‘cryotherapy’ literally means ‘treatment using low temperature’ and refers to the removal of surface skin lesions by freezing them. The most commonly used freezing agent or product is liquid nitrogen.
What is liquid nitrogen?
Liquid nitrogen is the liquid state of nitrogen gas, which occupies 78% of the air we breathe. It is extremely cold, having a boiling point of minus 196°C. It can freeze and destroy any part of the skin that it comes into contact with. It is necessary to store and transport liquid nitrogen in special flasks.
All treatments require a consultation, in some cases you may be asked to see your GP

Dermaplaning
A full and thorough consultation is carried out before your treatment begins. Your facial will include a gentle foam cleanse, this is to remove surface impurities and make-up and also to help regulate the PH levels in the skin. An Enzyme exfoliating peel is applied to the nose & decollete to dissolve dead skin cells and refine the skin. Once the skin is clean and free from impurities the Dermaplane exfoliation is carried-out. Following the procedure an intensive, vitamin drenched, cool moisture mask is applied to strengthen the skins immune system. Whilst the cooling mask takes effect you will be offered a choice of hand or scalp massage. Following the removal of the coolness mask a deep-penetrating SPF50 moisturiser is applied for post procedure protection.
Post-Facial Care
The number one thing to remember after a Dermaplane facial is that your skin will be much more sensitive to the sun and other environmental factors. While this is true of any facial, this is especially important after a Dermaplane facial as a deeper level of exfoliation has occurred. Ensure you are using SPF protection on your face immediately after the procedure and reapply often to keep your skin radiant and healthy.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Dermaplaning and is a Dermaplane facial the right choice for everyone?
Dermaplaning is a method of physical exfoliation using a sterile, surgical scalpel to gently shave the skin’s surface, removing the top-most layer of dead skin along with fine, vellus hair (aka peach fuzz). This painless procedure leaves the skin more silky smooth than other exfoliation techniques due to the hair removal process.
What Are The Benefits Of A Dermaplane Facial?
A Dermaplane facial is a safe and painfree procedure for removing dead skin cells, it eliminates soft facial hair that traps dirt and oils, it promotes smoother skin, reduces the appearance of acne scars and diminishes the look of fine lines. The skin will be left smooth and naturally radiant!
Who Shouldn’t Get A Dermaplane Facial?
A Dermaplane facial is appropriate for all ages and for most skin types, but if you have deep cystic acne or sensitive skin, you may want to sit this treatment out. If you have acne, wait until breakouts are clear. For sensitive skin, note that 21 days’ worth of dead skin cells will be removed, so skin will be more sensitive post-treatment. It is also worth noting that Dermaplaning is only meant for the face, not the nose, neck, or chest.
What is included in a Dermaplane Facial?
Before your first Dermaplaning treatment a full and thorough consultation is carried out in order to inform you of what the treatment entails and to establish your skin concerns. Dermaplaning is suitable for all skin types, male and female except those with active pustular acne. Your initial consultation will take around 10 mins. The Dermaplane facial takes around 45 minutes.

Microneedling
What is Medical Microneedling?
Microneedling (also known as skin needling or collagen induction therapy) is a type of treatment that uses small needles to cause tiny punctures in the skin. These small contact points encourage the body to create a wound healing response and renew the skin cells. As your skin repairs, the production of collagen and elastin is triggered to give an almost immediate plumping effect. It can also help tackle other skin damage such as scarring, dark marks, sun damage and ageing.

This is a unique electronic mechanism which allows your practitioner to control treatment intensity to best suit your needs. A solution is also applied to the skin, containing hyaluronic acid, minerals, vitamins and peptides, which stimulates cell proliferation and so reduces the skin’s contours and improves elasticity. The microneedling pen treatment is targeted and ideal for clients who have localised areas of concern.

Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling is most commonly used to treat the following skin conditions:
- Dull skin: Rejuvenate tired and dull skin and combat the initial signs of ageing.
- Wrinkles: Fine lines and wrinkles on the face can be visibly reduced, as microneedling triggers collagen production.
- Scarring: Scars from acne and chicken pox can be improved and an uneven texture can be smoothed out with microneedling.
- Pigmentation: Can help to fade dark patches such as pigmentation due to sun damage or ageing.
Microneedling is a great treatment for you if you have darker skin because it doesn’t involve peels or lasers, which can cause pigmentation issues.
Treatments can be performed on the body as well as the face.

Your microneedling consultation: what to expect?
Your microneedling consultation will be with Johanna. She will assess your condition and determine the most appropriate form of treatment. During your consultation they will be able to answer any questions you may have about your skin condition and give you personalised advice. If they decide your skin condition can be treated, they will be able to carry out the procedure in-clinic.
Microneedling is mostly used on the face and may treat various scars, wrinkles, and large pores, but also could be used on the neck, décolleté, and scalp.
Increased production of natural fibres within the skin means the treatment works very well at treating scars such as post acne scarring , stretch marks as well as fine lines and wrinkles, and smoother, firmer, more toned skin.
A series of treatments is usually recommended 4-6 weeks apart, although 1-2 sessions works well as a general skin refreshment. It is suitable for all skin types. This treatment is led by our team of highly qualified dermatology specialist nurses and physician’s assistant with many years of cumulative experience in providing treatment to skin patients.
With many years of cumulative experience in providing treatment to skin patients, Microneedling is a popular way to treat a variety of skin issues. It is most often used on the face and can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles, large pores, scars, and other areas of concern. The treatment works well because it encourages fibres beneath the surface of the skin to produce more natural material which makes skin smoother, firmer, and more toned.
Generally speaking, multiple treatments spaced out 4-6 weeks apart are recommended for best results – though one or two sessions may work as an overall refresher. Both women and men with any skin type can benefit from. Johanna is fully trained and experienced in the DPM8 microneedling pen.
What will I expect after the procedure?
After the procedure, the skin will be red and flushed, similar in appearance to moderate sunburn. There will also be some skin tightness and mild sensitivity. This will diminish greatly after a few hours and usually within the next 48 hours your skin will be completely healed. After 5 days there is barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place.
When will I see results?
Visible signs of rejuvenation are seen after just 6-8 weeks following procedure and continue for up to a year. A course of 3 to 5 sessions at 6-8 week intervals is usually recommended to achieve optimum results; however most will notice skin improvement after just 1 session
Is there any downtime?
No, microneedling is minimally invasive and there is no downtime following treatment. You may experience minor redness and irritation for a few days after the procedure.
What can Microneedling treat?
Microneedling is commonly used to treat:
- acne scars
- age spots
- fine lines and wrinkles
- large pores
- scars
- reduced skin elasticity
- uneven skin tone
After Care Information
- DO NOT EXPOSE TO UV
After having undergone a microneedling treatment, customers should stay out of the sun and avoid going to solarium. - AVOID INTENSIVE EXERCISE
As you sweat the pores of your skin will reopen, and the bacteria on your skin may enter the skin punctures. This can lead to a either a reaction or infection. - AVOID EXCESSIVELY HOT SHOWERS
(including bathing, spas or saunas) - AVOID THE USE OF MAKEUP
It is vital that you let the skin breathe for 24 hours after the treatment. The skin channels are open, and applying a makeup can penetrate the pores causing further irritation. Customers should wait 24 to 48 hours before using makeup, leaving enough time for the skin to recover. - AVOID ACTIVE TOPICAL SKIN CARE
Applying high dosage of active topical skin care ingredients (including but not limited to): retinoid, hydroquinone, AHA, BHA, benzoyl peroxide, alcohol, chemical based sunscreen - AVOID SPRAY TAN
(Spray or self-tanning) - AVOID THE USE OF MAKEUP

- For the first 1-3 days, the skin will may feel dry and tight. Frequent use of post-session topical will help alleviate this.
- After 2-3 days patients can return to regular skin care products or as soon as it is comfortable to do so.
- Vitamin A products are optimal and suggested. (low dose)
- Avoid alcohol-based toners for 10-14 days.
- Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 10 days if possible. When exposed to the sun, always use sun screen SPF30 or above. Do not apply chemical sunscreen the same day as treatment. Only Use approved physical defence sunscreen.
- The use of an Antioxidant serum will promote healing and assist in soothing the skin and further irritation.
- As microneedling serves to stimulate the production of collagen, the skin needs higher amounts of collagen than normal to recover optimally. Collagen Stimulating Peptides assist in that process, further aiding in the stimulation of collagen production.
- It is important to stay hydrated before and after the procedure to help the skin heal and rejuvenate faster.
- Gently exfoliate the skin after 3-5 days to remove the flaky dead skin that commonly forms after treatments.
- DO NOT apply spray tanning or fake tanning creams for 2-3 weeks after the treatment.
- Oral supplements can help benefit the skin and improve the result of treatment.
- Omega 3, Zinc, Vitamin c and glucosamine.
